Sewing - A community for people that sew
Don't launch hereSelf-promotion or “I made X” posts get removed or banned.
Can you post your project here?
Posts showing completed projects must be flaired 'Project' and include details about the project. Self-promotion, selling, and linking to social media or businesses are banned.
Before you post: Rule 2 explicitly bans selling, self-promotion, and linking to businesses or social media. Rule 1 requires 'Project' flair and details for any project showcase.
The rules, in their words
- All show-off posts must be flaired Project and include project details.: Posts that show a work-in-progress or a completed project must be flaired Project and include project details in the initial post or as a comment in response to the post. It's okay to ask questions as part of a Project post. Project posts without Project flair and detailed project information can be removed at any time. Each project can be shared no more than twice, once as a progress post and/or once as a finished project.[Here.](https://www.reddit.com/r/sewing/wiki/titleguidelines/)
- No selling, self-promotion or spam.: This is a no-hustle subreddit intended for the hobby of sewing. This includes mentioning or linking your own social media accounts, businesses and affiliate links as well as asking business or manufacturing questions. More information about how to participate as a business and what not to do can be found in the wiki. Comments asking about sales, commissions and socials will be removed without a mod comment. Check the user profile of the OP for this information.
- Be nice, don't be a jerk.: Comments which degrade, tear down, or are hurtful to other users will be removed. Constructive Criticism (CC) focused on the project as presented is encouraged. Ask first before offering CC if the OP isn't clear that CC is welcome.
- Body talk is neutral and focused on sewing.: Comments should focus on the sewing work and not the body in the photo. Fitting advice should change the garment, not the body, for example without suggesting different undergarments. Comments that focus solely on a user's appearance, no matter how well-intentioned, will be removed.
- No flooding posts or comments: No more than one project post and one question post daily per user. To share additional photos, add them in the comments of the original post. Comments should be directly related to the post topic. Multiple posts sharing project progress or frequent questions about the same project are better suited to the Weekly Simple Sewing Questions pinned thread or the subreddit Discord, [Sewing on Reddit.](8pEErgvwnJ)
- Photos should focus on sewing.: Photo images for project posts need to clearly show sewing details without excessive editing, including obvious AI. The first photo for the thumbnail for lingerie, swimsuit and revealing garments should be a flat lay or other unmodeled photo.. No visible genitalia in any photos. Use a filler photo for the thumbnail when posting inspiration images with revealing garments.
- No children in photos.: No children in photos, not even with faces blocked or incidental photo-bombing. Project posts about children’s items are limited to the item(s) only such as flat-lay clothing or mannequin shots. Expect the mod team to question any photos that appear to include pre-teens and under. The exception is commercial photos such as pattern envelopes.
- Mod Discretion: Moderators retain discretion to remove posts or comments at any time if they feel they are violating Reddit sitewide rules or in their judgment, are not in the best interest of the subreddit.
