Self-Hosted Alternatives to Popular Services
Post with careYou can post, but there are rules to clear first.
Can you post your project here?
Self-promotion is allowed if you are upfront about who you are and why your product is relevant to self-hosting. Blog posts linking to your own content must include context in the body, not just a link. Dashboard posts are specifically allowed on Wednesdays.
Before you post: Be upfront about identity and relevance. For blog links, provide context in the post body. Dashboard posts flair 'Dashboard Posts' and are allowed on Wednesdays.
The rules, in their words
- Violation of Reddit self-promotion rules: Our community uses the [Reddit Self-Promotion guidelines](https://www.reddit.com/wiki/selfpromotion) as one of many aspects of guidance in curating content for this subreddit. Become familiar with those guidelines, as moderators, will use the content alongside other guidelines to remove content we deem necessary. This rule will not solely be the basis for content removal, the majority of the time.
- No Shills: If you have a relevant product or service that you wish to tell /r/selfhosted about then be upfront and say who you are and why it is of interest. Any under hand shilling of products or services will result in action and may include banning of your account. Also see Rule 1 For more information see https://old.reddit.com/r/selfhosted/wiki/rules
- Hate-speech & Harassment: Attack ideas not people. Anything considered an attack will be removed. Plain and simple. Report it, and the mod team will do our best to remove as needed. No place here for uncivil conversation.
- Must Be Related to Self-Hosting: As the subreddit is duly named, any content that is posted to the subreddit must involve a self-hosted application, service, website, etc. This rule is being expanded as of April 2024 to include tangentially-related tools, software, and services that *directly relate* to some aspect of self-hosting.
- Minimum Effort Recommended: Everyone starts somewhere, and sometimes, it's hard to know what, specifically, you actually need help with understanding. That said, at least attempt to do some research and share some insight within your posts requesting assistance that includes what you've attempted thus far. Posts that are perceived to be low-effort will not be removed, but they will have a sticky left when recognized that request more information be provided where necessary.
- Blog Link Posts: Blog Text Posts *Are Allowed*. They must follow the rules outlined below: You may not submit a link post directly to the blog post. A link to the blog must be in the body of the post. You should not only post a link. Share a few sentences of what it is, why it's relevant, and how it can help. Or something that giverrs context as to why we should visit the link. Blog posts should be about a self-hosted tool, service, etc. All other rules that apply to posts to the subreddit apply to blogs.
- Dashboard Posts: Each Wednesday, appropriately flared posts about the following items are allowed: - Dashboard Posts: Show off your dashboard, tell us how you made it, etc. Self-text, Link post, doesn't matter.
- All Reddit Rules Apply: https://www.redditinc.com/policies/user-agreement
