Self-promotion is generally prohibited. Posts should focus solely on the artwork itself, not the artist or external sales platforms. Only YouTube tutorials from established creators (10k+ subscribers) might be manually approved.

Before you post: Cannot mention Etsy/Instagram/YouTube/eBay/NFTs. Posts should only show the painting, not the artist. YouTube links require manual approval and specific creator criteria.

The rules, in their words

1. be kind: Be kind to others; we don't need to emulate crabs and pull each other down.
2. Should be relevant to oil painting.: Don't post things unrelated to oil painting. If you would put it in a gallery as "mixed media", it's not an oil painting. This holds true for AI-generated "oilpainting style" art such as DALL-E generated outputs too.
3. Do not recommend hazmats w/o caveats: Oil painting history and practice has a lot of toxic & hazardous materials. It is irresponsible to promote the use of these hazardous materials without referencing proper care in use and disposal. This principally is lead paint and Paris green.
4. Commercial plugging prohibited: Forbidden any kind of commercial (ask for or selling)
5. Tag NSFW: With tens of thousands of users globally, we must be reasonably culturally sensitive. This means, among other things, tag posts that are NSFW. People can get in serious trouble for nudity on their screen. On the other hand, you can put a great deal under the NSFW lock. If it's getting heavy on the erotica side, the 'lewd' flair should be used.
6. Self Promotion: We understand that you want followers in your Instagram, YouTube channel, sales in your Etsy, ebay, etc. but this isn't the place to promote yourself. Clarifications: No mention of Etsy/Instagram/YouTube Channel/eBay/NTF in your post Only pictures of your paint, not you next to them. (with frame it's ok, also with your reddit user watermark) youtube links will be manually approved and only for useful tutorials of youtubers with 10k+ subscribers that help the conversation.
7. Civilized Political Discussion: Political art has a very long history. Politics also tends to be contentious. We explicitly _permit_ political art. But, keep it civil.
8. First time oil painter only for beginners: the use of FIRST TIME Paints are for beginners. if your paint look professional you will get the post removed and get a ban.
9. Crop Image Properly: Crop your image properly. Don't include paints, model, self, etc. Just the painting, thanks. :)
