Self-promotion is generally banned, with a very narrow exception for high-quality original content analysis, which can only be promoted in a comment reply to the original post. Spam, including links to personal websites, is prohibited.

The rules, in their words

1. Keep it civil.: Do not insult other users. Do not name call, condescend, or belittle others. Please do not refer mockingly to /r/nba and its users. Speak with others how you would like to be spoken with. Racism will not be tolerated at all
2. Submit high quality content.: This subreddit is for high quality discussion of the NBA, past, present, and near future. Low effort content, including jokes, memes, fanbase attacks, or shitposts will be removed as the moderators see fit.
3. This is a discussion subreddit. Support claims with substantiated arguments.: Support claims with substantiated arguments. Proofs from trusted NBA reporters, databases (e.g. Basketball Reference), and your own statistical analyses should be provided when it strengthens your point. Unless it is undeniable fact, the burden of proof falls upon the person making the claim.
4. Attack the argument, not the person.: Politely disagree when appropriate. Accept and acknowledge if you cannot maintain your original argument.
5. Ranking, GOAT, and player comparison posts will be removed: Posts that focus on (a) where a player is ranked, (b) whether the player is overrated or underrated, (c) how the player compares to other players (this includes all-nba and all-star debates), or (d) whether a player is the GOAT will be removed.
6. Most arguments can't be deconstructed in a sentence. Top level comments have a char. minimum of 100
7. Present your own argument: Questioning others without offering your own thoughts invites a more hostile debate. Present a clear counter argument if you disagree and be open to the perspective of others.
8. Posts like "Thoughts?" or "Discuss" and other low effort content will be removed.: Our sub is for in-depth discussion, which requires a high amount of effort. Please provide a more context or information before considering re-posting.
9. Common topics and questions are limited to mega threads and weekly threads.: All posts pertaining to common topics (ie. all-star, tourney & trade ideas) must be placed in their respective megathreads. Simple basketball / nba questions go in the weekly questions thread.
10. Vote based on if the post or comment meets the standard of quality you expect from this subreddit.: Vote based on whether the post or comment appears to meet the standards for quality you expect from a discussion subreddit. Don't downvote just because you disagree.
11. Post enough content to provide a jumping-off point. The char. minimum for posts is 350.: Post enough content to provide a jumping-off point. The minimum number of characters needed for a post to not be filtered is 350 characters.
12. No Self-Promotion: Self-promotion is not permitted with the exception of high-quality OC analysis. In these exceptional cases, self-promotion is permitted in a comment reply to the original post.

14. No spam.: This includes your youtube video, website, blog, or twitter.
