Don't launch hereSelf-promotion or “I made X” posts get removed or banned.

Can you post your project here?

Self-promotion of any kind, including your own music, projects, or channels, is strictly banned. Posts must contribute to discussions about hip hop and its history; news or music video links are generally discouraged. Violations can lead to a permanent ban.

Before you post: Rule #1 explicitly bans all forms of self-promotion. Rule #6 discourages new hip hop news/music videos, suggesting they are better suited for other subreddits.

The rules, in their words

  1. Rule #1: No self-promotion.: This includes either your own or your friend's music, music video, youtube channel, podcast, website, and anything along those lines decided by r/hiphop101's moderation team. That includes the /r/hiphop101 chatroom. This also includes asking to collaborate (networking). If you want music feedback, try r/makinghiphop, but make sure to follow their rules. Not following this rule is most likely to result in a permanent ban, even more likely if there is a history of spamming multiple subreddits.
  2. Rule #2: No spam.: Posts should add to the discussion around hip hop. Topics that are completely irrelevant to this subreddit will be removed. Posts that are poorly written or of little substance for discussion will also be removed. Trolls and insincere posts will be removed at moderator discretion. Continued abuse to this rule will lead to a ban, temporary or permanent depending on the severity.
  3. Rule #3: Topics should stay on the discussion around Hip Hop: r/hiphop101 is a place first-and-foremost to talk about and discuss Hip Hop. Any talk about other topics such as politics, religion, or other issues should be centered around the main topic of hip hop. These issues are important to Hip Hop, but anything out of bounds of that is for other subreddits and does not belong here. Moderators have discretion to remove any posts or comments that deviate from Hip Hop discussion. And temporary to permanent bans may be warranted depending on severity.
  4. Rule #4: No personally attacking people.: This is a place to speak without worrying about personal backlash, so if you know something someone does not, politely educate instead of berate. It is completely okay to talk about somebody else's opinion and offer your take on it. But, it is against the rules to personally attack people. Calling people names or starting inflammatory arguments to rile people up may result in a temporary ban. Continuing this behavior after a temp ban may result in a permanent ban, depending on post history.
  5. Rule #5: No Gatekeeping.: r/hiphop101 allows all types of discussion about all types of Hip Hop. Whether you started listening to Hip Hop at its inception, or you're a new listener to today's latest Hip Hop, r/hiphop101 is the place to talk and share with others about it! Gatekeeping is someone deciding who does and does not belong in a community. Excluding other hip hop fans and discouraging their taste in hip hop is not allowed. This also includes bringing up the race of another user in any context.
  6. Rule #6: Generally avoid posting new hip hop news/music videos.: r/hiphop101 is not r/hiphopheads. There is a reason we do not allow link posts. r/hiphop101 focuses on discussing hip hop and its history: sharing songs, music videos, albums and playlists within discussion; and sharing knowledgeable guides about hip hop. Posts that sound like news headlines or music video titles may be removed because of this. If you want that experience on Reddit, r/hiphopheads is the place to post. Usually will just be removed, but repeat offenders may warrant a ban.
  7. Rule #7: Use Quote Marks, Name Title And Artist When Quoting Controversial Lyrics/Titles : The r/hiphop101 mod team and community may understand that you were quoting titles or lyrics, but the Reddit automated harassment systems may not. We ask that you always CYA by properly using quote marks and clearly naming the artist and song when posting controversial titles or lyrics that could get your account flagged or suspended by the Reddit automated system. Any posts or comments missing this info will be removed.
  8. Rule #8: No Discriminatory Remarks: No derogatory remarks/slurs that are prejudiced, bigoted, homophobic, sexist, racist, ableist, etc etc etc. No discrimination allowed.
  9. Rule 9: Use Artist’s Official Social Media : Please use the official artist’s social media channel when posting links so that they get proper credit for their work. We do not allow people to farm subscribers to their own personal social media channels by posting a copy of an artist’s work. This is disrespectful to the artist and hip hop culture.
