The Great Hall
Post with careYou can post, but there are rules to clear first.
Can you post your project here?
Posts must be related to the Wizarding World. Monetary exchanges like Etsy links are not allowed in posts, but may be permitted in comments under specific conditions. Non-Reddit functions and AI generated content are banned.
Before you post: Rule 6 bans links to personally operated retail sites in posts, but allows them in comments if they follow the 85/15 rule. Rule 11 requires crediting original creators or marking posts as [Original Content]. Rule 13 restricts link posts during Discussion Week.
The rules, in their words
- Rule #1: Don't be a jerk: This includes but is not limited to trolling, bashing or trashing others' opinions, hate speech, derogatory slurs, and personal attacks. Defending any bigotry including homophobia, racism and transphobia is a permaban, as is complaining about diversity.
- Rule #2: No modern politics: Political discussion limited to the Potterverse is still acceptable. We define "Modern" as anything that has happened in the past 20 years.
- Rule #3: No enabling piracy: Don’t post links or discuss how to pirate any Harry Potter-related media.
- Rule #4: Posts must be Wizarding World related: Posts must be related to Harry Potter and the universe in a tangible way. This does not include series actors and their personal lives, political leanings of persons associated with the franchise, pets named after the series, images related only by the title, etc. - Discussion of JKR's personal opinions is banned. Defense of her words and actions will lead to a ban. This includes supporting her right to a platform to spread hate. (Full rule in wiki)
- Rule #5: No sharing private information: Don’t share personal information found on a private subreddit or by other means of private conversation in the Great Hall. - If you feel someone is breaking the rules, you should always feel free to bring your concerns privately to any of the mods without breaking rule 5. - You may talk about general happenings within your common room without fear of breaking rule 5.
- Rule #6: No monetary exchanges: No linking to personally operated retail/resale sites such as Etsy in a post. You may link to a merchandise store in the comments only provided you follow the 85/15 rule. No crowdfunding sites are allowed. - See wiki for more details
- Rule #7: No ticket sales: You may advertise events in your area that involve ticket sales as long as your post is transparent about a ticket cost for the event. If you have tickets for a show or park and would like to give them away for free you may post an advertisement but you may not ask for compensation. - See Wiki for more details
- Rule #8: No Non-Reddit Functions/Gatherings: No linking or promoting any chats, gatherings or functions that occur off reddit.com. This includes but is not limited to Discord servers, IRC rooms, websites, surveys, quizzes, Google forms, etc.
- Rule #9: No pornographic images of any kind
- Rule #10: No AI Generated Content: No AI generated content including art and text posts.
- Rule #11: Credit Original Creators: Credit the original creator in titles or claim posts as [Original Content]
- Rule #12: Follow Reddit's Rules and Reddiquette: [Reddit's rules](http://www.reddit.com/rules/) and [reddiquette](http://www.reddit.com/wiki/reddiquette)
- Rule #13: Violates Discussion Week: Every other week, r/harrypotter is in [Discussion Week](https://www.reddit.com/r/harrypotter/wiki/megathread#wiki_discussion_week). During this time, link posts are not allowed. All posts should focus on starting discussion about the Potterverse, whether it's fan theories, book/film critiques, headcanon, fan fiction, etc.
- Rule #14: Spoilers: [Spoiler policy](https://www.reddit.com/r/harrypotter/wiki/spoilers)
- Ban Evasion: Your account was identified by Reddit sitewide administrators (not subreddit mods) as an alternate or main account of another account that was recently banned from r/harrypotter. Please note that Ban Evasion is against the Reddit Terms of Service. If you believe that your account was incorrectly identified as participating in Ban Evasion, you can [open an appeal](https://www.reddit.com/appeal) with the Reddit admins directly or try posting on r/help for further suggestions.
