Don't launch hereSelf-promotion or “I made X” posts get removed or banned.

Can you post your project here?

Self-promotion, product advertisements, and blogspam are strictly forbidden. Posts should not link to personal social media, crowdfunded projects, or frequently repost content. Titles must be descriptive and avoid clickbait phrasing.

Before you post: Product/Channel advertisement and Blogspam/Self-promotion are strictly forbidden. Rule 5 explicitly bans kickstarters, YouTube, Instagram, Etsy, and any monetized or personal social media channels. Rule 10 further clarifies that submissions from the same domain or YouTube channel, or domain sites featuring blog articles and advertisements, are considered blogspam and will be removed.

The rules, in their words

  1. Titles should be descriptive.: Think of the title as your justification for calling it a hack. Make it descriptive, a sentence long, and try to convey as much information about the trick as you can. If someone can read the entirety of the hack in the title and immediately jump into comments to talk about it, that's a successful post. 'X tricks to make Y!' is not an acceptable title. 'Do Y faster with these X tips!' is not acceptable either. Users are heavily encouraged to report a post whenever seeing titles like this.
  2. Image posts should be concise.: If it's a single image, the hack should be obvious and the title should help to make it obvious. If it's an album that's more than 3 images, it'd be preferable to lead with an image of the finished hack, and the title should be descriptive.
  3. A recipe itself does not constitute a food hack.: Use /r/recipes for a recipe, they don't belong here. If comments about a post ask for a related recipe and you reply with one, or it's an example of an ingredient being used in the last way you'd imagine just to point out that it can be used for this (and the recipe is incidental), then we'll talk. Otherwise it's not a hack and it will be removed.
  4. Don't repost hacks in the short term.: If you've tried out some recently popular hack and want to post your results, use a comment in the original thread. We think it's awesome when users here post their results, but it also has the side effect of bloating the front page a bit if those results posts take the form of new submissions. If the results posts are in the comments of the original thread, that's no issue.
  5. Product/Channel advertisement of any kind is not allowed.: We're not the place to post your kickstarter, YouTube, Instagram, Etsy storefront, or any other monetized or personal social media channel you benefit from. Moderation on this one is fast and loose for good reason, and we treat links to crowdfunding domains automatically as passive advertisement due to past experience. If you see this, report it as soon as possible.
  6. List posts are discouraged.: The idea behind this one is to discourage clickbait sites (and accounts) from abusing the subreddit for traffic/karma and to encourage useful information right on the front page. If you're going to post some kind of list, make sure you follow Rule 1 and/or describe at least one specific hack present in the list.
  7. Clearly label any hacks regarding presentation.: We have submission flair. It's very useful for visitors and it'd be really great if you'd make use of it. The only one enforced in a meaningful way is any hacks that involve food presentation or plating, otherwise we rely on users to take the initiative.
  8. Infographic and other quick reference ARE ALLOWED.: This is meant as a quick clarification. As far as content goes, Infographic and other quick-reference style material are considered OK. While they may not necessarily bring anything new to the table for an experienced cook, they help cut down prep and cook times for less experienced chefs and for that reason we permit them so long as they follow the rest of the rules.
  9. User harassment is forbidden.: You can voice your opinion without harassing someone. Don't engage in user harassment.
  10. Blogspam/Self-promotion is strictly forbidden: Are all of your submissions from the same domain name or YouTube channel? Does the domain feature blog style articles on every topic covered both in advertisements and links to other "fluff" content? Does the post consist of a single image probably from somewhere else on a site like this? These are all things we ask ourselves when determining whether a post is blogspam and should be removed. We keep a submissions filter for this content and add to it regularly.
