The rules, in their words

1. Please be respectful, do not harass others.: * Be respectful - do not insult other users, bait or flame comment sections, or use excessive vulgar language. Adhere to the [Reddiquette](https://www.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/205926439). * **Bigoted language will be met with a permanent ban. Zero tolerance.** * Do not submit private info of others, harass other users of this or similar subreddits, or promote harassment outside of this subreddit.
2. Content must pertain to Dark Souls 1.: * This subreddit was created with the intent of sharing information and experiences around the game Dark Souls 1. It's perfectly fine to make non-Dark Souls 1 references in your comments or as a part of a submission, but the overall theme must be relevant to the game. * Content that *reminds* you of Dark Souls 1 but is *not*, may be removed. Use r/shittydarksouls or r/DarkSoulsIRL instead for these posts. * Please use r/DarkSouls2 and r/darksouls3 for their respective titles.
3. NSFW and otherwise crass content is not allowed.: * Explicitly NSFW, lewd, crass, or suggestive content is not allowed. This includes jokes & memes.
4. All fan-art should be OC; only the original creator may submit it.: * Any fan-art posted should be original content only. If you didn't make it, don't post it! * If you *commissioned* artwork *(or got a tattoo)*, refrain from posting it. If the artist would like to share the work, they are welcome to granted they follow all applicable sub rules. * **Submissions that feature content created by AI programs (whether it is artwork, music, writing, or otherwise) are not allowed.**
5. Do not discuss cheats or mods that negatively affect online play.: * Discussions centered around how to perform malicious cheats or exploits that negatively affect **online play** are not permitted. * Discussion on mods is allowed so long as the mods do not negatively affect **online play**. * Discussion on cheat engine is not permitted.
6. No sales, sales links, directing to sales, soliciting donations, or advertisements whatsoever.: * Any attempt to direct users to sales pages or monetization platforms whether through explicit linking or subversive advertisement are not allowed. This includes encouraging users to DM you or listing your income platforms in your Reddit profile. * Posts or comments selling or buying in-game items or help are not allowed. * Soliciting donations is not allowed. Charitable causes should be cleared with the mod team first. * Do not post unlicensed merchandise.
7. Self promotion posts are allowed once per week with community participation.: * Self promotion occurs when you share content that you have created and uploaded to sites like Youtube, Twitch, Instagram, DeviantArt, etc. * You are permitted one self promotion post per week **as long as you are an active member of r/darksouls.** That means engaging w/ the sub beyond your own content. * Self promotion posts that appear to be made by spammers or trolls will be removed without warning. * Do not post content from popular creators. * Do not promote content for others.
8. Memes, screenshots, and video clips should follow the subreddit guidelines.: * **[Full guidelines here](/r/darksouls/wiki/new_post_guide).** * All submissions should show some degree of user effort. **Even if you skirt under the rules, shitposts are still not allowed.** * Memes should be made using some **in-game assets**, memes using templates should go to r/shittydarksouls or r/DarkSoulsMemes instead. * Screenshots or short video clips from your game should have written context to accompany them. Those lacking written context will be removed.
9. No trolling, karma farming, rage posts, tier lists or other low-effort submissions.: * Karma-farming is a practice of using attention-grabbing or sub-specific popular posts in order to amass Reddit karma. Often to sell the account, to raise bots up that won't get banned, or even just to boost OP's internet ego. * Low-effort submissions like "just bought the game", "wrong answers only", tierlists, and *[other](/r/bloodborne/wiki/new_post_guide)* Reddit or subreddit trends will be removed * Posts raging at the game or its players will be removed * Trolls will be banned mercilessly
