Cooking for Beginners
Post with careYou can post, but there are rules to clear first.
Can you post your project here?
Self-promotion, outside links, videos, or images are only allowed in the weekly megathread. You can include them in your post or comments if asked for context, but not as the primary content.
Before you post: Self-promotion, outside links, videos, or images must be submitted to the stickied weekly megathread.
The rules, in their words
- Be civil to each other: Don't be a troll! Be polite to others -- even if you don't agree with their opinion or method. If something breaks a rule, reporting it is enough -- no need to attack OP.
- No self promotion, outside links, videos, or images except in the megathread: Please submit all your self-promotion, outside links, videos, and images to the stickied weekly megathread. You are allowed to share these things in the body of your post or the comments, but only when requested or needed for context. So no linking-and-leaving with your posts.
- Include details in your post! Either a recipe or a topic for discussion.: You must include 1) a recipe, 2) a question or topic for discussion (e.g. "how can I improve this?") or 3) some other elaboration on the post, either in the body of the post or as a comment.
- No gatekeeping.: Your definition of a "beginner" may be different from someone else's -- and that's okay -- but there's no need to leave a comment about how someone's post isn't basic enough. Everyone learns at different speeds. Please try to keep your comments constructive!
- Please be constructive.: Before you post, please ask: Am I asking for feedback on something I made, instead of just looking for praise? Before you comment, please ask: Am I offering the poster real, constructive advice or other words of encouragement? If your post/comment does neither of these, please reconsider or reword before you submit.
- "If in doubt, throw it out": The "I am not a food inspector but ...." rule. If you have a food safety question that goes beyond the scope of everyday knowledge, please defer to the experts! Look up the USDA recommendations for various times, HACCP rules, temperatures, and more. If in doubt, throw it out.
- No AMAs without permission.: We're only permitting AMAs if they are approved through modmail first, and from verified sources (e.g. professional cook, etc.).
- No AI: AI tools are not suitable for beginners. AI results are not reliable, results should be fact-checked and this requires experience that a beginner does not have.
