👥 3.3M members📅 best day: 25th of month
Post with careYou can post, but there are rules to clear first.

Can you post your project here?

Self-promotion and video posts are generally banned, with a specific monthly exception. You can post videos, podcasts, and self-promotional content only in the media thread posted on the 25th of every month.

Before you post: Self-promotion and video content is only allowed in the media thread posted on the 25th of each month.

The rules, in their words

  1. No personal information, personal stories, or indicating suspects.: * Posting personal info is against the reddit content policy * Do not request personal information * No unsubstantiated personal stories/anecdotes * No social media links or crowd funding/donation sites * All images must have personal information obscured. * No indicating/naming/suggesting someone as a suspect unless named by police * No accusations against people who have been ruled out by law enforcement * Discussion of family members or other quasi-public figures must remain respectful
  2. Don't Glorify Criminals or Violence: We do not allow any type of criminal glorification or glorification of violence. If you want to talk about your crush on Dylann Roof or find an address to write to Steven Avery in prison, this isn't the place. No memorabilia posts or items that belonged to anyone convicted of a crime. Also no posts about the artistic and/or creative endeavors of anyone incarcerated for a violent crime, nor about any of their correspondence (written or recorded) with another person. This is a bannable offense.
  3. No advertising: Advertising any service, site, subreddit, media -- anything that can be advertised -- requires prior permission from the mods. The one exception is you are allowed to post your subreddit name in the comments of a thread as long as you are not spamming it. Note that we are not here to help name your blog/podcast/etc, and we're not here to help you write your screenplay/book treatment/homework/etc. Posts of this type will be removed and the submitter banned. No surveys of any kind. Bannable.
  4. Respect other users: There is no reason to get into a heated argument with someone on the internet. No one gains anything and people who get into those never do it to possibly have their mind changed. Debate is encouraged but you can be assertive without being aggressive. If you have to resort to personal insults at any point in the discussion, you have lost the argument. Don't respond to users insulting you, use the report function.
  5. No memes: Memes are not allowed on r/TrueCrime because memes on a subreddit tend to crowd out other content. Memes belong on r/TrueCrimeMemes.
  6. No dehumanizing speech or frontier justice: Remember that people you talk *to* and talk *about* on this sub are people. Killers, victims, law enforcement, and fellow users on /r/TrueCrime all have lives of their own so please try not to dehumanize the victims in these cases. We're here because this is a hobby for us, but always remember that they're people. It is against the rules to wish violence or death on criminals.
  7. No video posts / self promotion: We are no longer accepting youtube or video posts. On the 25th of every month a new media thread will be posted where you are welcome to post videos, podcasts, and self promotional content.
  8. Text posts guidelines: [Please visit this link to see our full guidelines.](https://reddit.com/r/truecrime/wiki/guidelines) For case write ups we require the following: * 500 character count to provide a sufficient summary (must be original content) * Third party, reputable sources required (see wiki for whitelist) * One or more discussion points for users * No personal / undocumented cases without verification To submit a question post or other type of text post you must apply the questions flair upon posting.
  9. Rule 9 - No sensationalist titles: Please keep your titles infomational and objective. Titles that are overly sensational, subjective, or that contain misinformation will be removed.
  10. Rule 10 - Off-topic/moralizing/misogyny/sexism/racism: No comments that are: * Off topic * Making moral judgements * Victim blaming * Misogynistic/Sexist * Racist
  11. Rule 11 - No missing persons posts: As there is generally little or no **CONFIRMED** evidence that a crime has actually occurred in missing persons cases, /r/TrueCrime cannot accept posts about them. Our friends over at /r/missingpersons will gladly welcome your submission there. We wish you the best of luck.
