This subreddit is for asking questions to Americans. Posts must be in question form, topic-relevant, and in good faith. Clarifications are allowed but must be brief.

Before you post: Self-promotion or non-question posts like 'I built X' are not allowed as all submissions must be in question form.

The rules, in their words

1. All submissions must be in question form. This includes a question mark (?) at the end.
2. The text box is to be used to add clarification or context to your question only.: Do not answer your own question in the text box. Keep all clarifying or contextual remarks short, under 250 characters.
3. All questions and comments must adhere to Reddit’s content policy.
4. Do not use slurs or bigoted language of any kind in a submission.
5. Check the FAQ and the sidebar prior to submitting your question: Please check both the [FAQ](https://www.reddit.com/r/AskAnAmerican/wiki/faq) and the sidebar for commonly asked questions prior to submitting your question; similarly, do not repost a thread that is currently on the front page or the top 100 from the past week.
6. Questions must be asked in good faith
7. Surveys are not allowed. AMAs must first be discussed with the moderators.
8. Do not ask questions that are not on topic for the subreddit.: The following question types are not allowed: “Where should I live?” questions. "Where should I go to school?" questions. “What should I do in [city/state]?” questions. This is not a legal advice subbreddit. Questions about immigration, work or visas should be directed to other subs.
9. Treat the poster of a submission or comment you are replying to with respect and civility.
10. Do not use slurs or bigoted language of any kind.
11. Do not attack other users based on their location or flair.
12. Answers and comment replies should be serious and useful.: - Top level comments must be on topic. - Single word responses are not allowed.
13. Do not comment on a thread if you came here from a comment linked in any other subreddit.
14. Do not comment with the intent to push an agenda, soapbox, sealion, or argue in bad faith.
15. No "what do you think about X Country/citizens" questions.
